ABSTRACT

Objective: To summarize the prescription rules of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for treating alcoholic liver disease (ALD) based on TCM inheritance support system (V2.50). Methods: The literatures about TCM prescriptions for treating ALD were collected from CNKI, Wanfang database, and VIP database. The TCM inheritance platform system was used to analyze the prescription rules of TCM in the treatment of alcoholic liver disease. Results: Statistics showed that the majority of prescriptions were used to treat alcoholic fatty liver, alcoholic hepatitis, and alcoholic cirrhosis. Through "frequency statistics" analysis, 107 prescriptions were found involving 149 flavors of TCM, with a cumulative frequency of 1 195 times. Twenty-three Chinese medicines with a frequency of ≥ 15 times were used, and the cumulative frequency was 737 times (62%). The most frequently used medicines were blood-activating and stasis-removing drugs, water-diffusing and damp-permeating drugs, tonics, heat-clearing drugs, antialcoholic poisons and qi-regulating drugs. The commonly used doses of Salvia miltiorrhiza, Poria cocos, Bupleurum chinense, Glycyrrhiza uralensis, Atractylodes macrocephala, Alismatis Rhizoma, and Curcumae Radix in the top 10 medicines ranked in the frequency of medication accorded with the prescribed doses in the Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China (2015 edition), while Crataegi Fructus, Artemisiae Scopariae Herba, and Puerariae Lobatae Radix exceeded the prescribed doses. In the frequency analysis of drug pairs, the combination of S.miltiorrhiza and B. chinense was the most widely used. According to the association rules of drug combination, the correlation between Curcumae Radix and S. miltiorrhiza was the strongest, that was, the probability of S. miltiorrhiza appearing with the emergence of Curcumae Radix was 88%. From the network display chart, it was indicated that S. miltiorrhiza and P. cocos were the main herbs for treatment. Through unsupervised entropy hierarchical clustering algorithm, 14 core combinations for new clustering were extracted, and seven new prescriptions can be obtained by further clustering. Conclusion: The basic principles of TCM treatment of ALD include promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, removing dampness, tonifying, detoxifying alcohol, and promoting qi, and with "protecting spleen and stomach function" as its purpose, which accords with the theoretical basis of traditional Chinese medicine in treating alcoholic liver disease. Core combinations and new prescriptions provide references for clinical drug use and new drug research and development, but new prescriptions must be further evaluated with the combination of traditional Chinese medicine theory and clinical practice.

ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the prescription regularity of Chinese herbs in the treatment of cancer-related fatigue by TCM inheritance platform system software. Methods A total of documents on treating cancer-related fatigue by Chinese herbs were collected in CNKI database, Wanfang database, VIP database, CBM database from 1999 to 2017. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the eligible prescriptions were selected to establish the database for summing up and analysing prescription regularity. Results A total of 33 articles were included in the analysis of 38 prescriptions, involving 108 kinds of Chinese herbs, of which the most common kinds were hot nature herb, sweetish taste, spleen meridian. Atractylodes, Poria, Licorice, Astragalus, Angelica, Tangerine peel, Codonopsis,Rehmannia had a high frequency of usage. It eventually formed 45 commonly used drug models, evolved into 16 core combinations of 3 to 4 herbs, and clustered into 5 new prescriptions. Conclusion The modern Chinese medicine in treatment of cancer-related fatigue is mainly focused on the spleen and kidney, what' s more, according to the unique nature of cancer treatment, more experts emphasize on the regulation of spleen and stomach function, which provides a useful reference for clinical syndrome differentiation and treatment.

ABSTRACT

Gastrointestinal failure is a kind of severe systemic inflammatory response, and often complicated with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. Integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine have a better curative effect in treating it. This study collected the famous veteran TCM physician Yu Guoyou's 175 prescriptions for treating 89 cases of gastrointestinal failure, calculated the frequency of traditional Chinese medicines and their categories, and analyzed the medication regularity with system clustering method, so as to summarize Yu's frequently used drugs and prescriptions. The results showed the top three most frequently used drugs aremagnolia bark, bitter orange, and rhubarb, which are components of Xiaochengqi decoction; Among the traditional Chinese medicines, medicines of tonifying deficiency, regulating qi, clearing heat, eliminating phlegm and dissipating dampness are most commonly used. Among the tonic medicines, those for tonifying Qi accounted for 2/3, which was the largest proportion; At the same time, some new prescriptions and new drug combinations were excavated and could be used as the reference for clinical medication. According to the findings, when differentiating syndromes of gastrointestinal failure, Yu regards the spleen and stomach Qi deficiency as the root cause and the heat toxin, blood stasis, Qi stagnation and dampness as the symptoms. In the treatment of gastrointestinal function failure, Yu gives priority to strengthening spleen, regulating Qi and purgation, prescribes medicines for dissolving blood stasis and detoxication, dissipating dampness, clearing heat and eliminating phlegm according to syndrome types. In other words, the treatment is based on syndrome differentiation, and the prescription is modified according to symptoms. In particular, Yu attaches importance to stomach-Qi recuperation and gastrointestinal function recovery in the process of treatment.

ABSTRACT

Cancer-related anorexia syndrome (CACS) is one of the main causes for death at present as well as a syndrome seriously harming patients' quality of life, treatment effect and survival time. In current clinical researches, there are fewer reports about empirical traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) prescriptions and patent prescriptions treating CACS, and prescription rules are rarely analyzed in a systematic manner. As the hidden rules are not excavated, it is hard to have an innovative discovery and knowledge of clinical medication. In this paper, the grey screening method combined with the multivariate statistical method was used to build the ″CACS prescriptions database″. Based on the database, totally 359 prescriptions were selected, the frequency of herbs in prescription was determined, and commonly combined drugs were evolved into 4 new prescriptions for different syndromes. Prescriptions of TCM in treatment of CACS gave priority to benefiting qi for strengthening spleen, also laid emphasis on replenishing kidney essence, dispersing stagnated liver-qi and dispersing lung-qi. Moreover, interdependence and mutual promotion of yin and yang should be taken into account to reflect TCM's holism and theory for treatment based on syndrome differentiation. The grey screening method, as a valuable traditional Chinese medicine research-supporting method, can be used to subjectively and objectively analyze prescription rules; and the new prescriptions can provide reference for the clinical use of TCM for treating CACS and the drug development.
